Last month, we visited the site of a major Renewal by Andersen whole home window replacement installation. The home now 17 years old, was in dire need of window replacement, since the homeowners were experiencing cold and winter drafts entering the home and insufficient summer AC cooling. Most of the original windows had broken their seal and had worn mechanisms. As the homeowners said, “It was time.”
Tim and Jane O., homeowners, made the decision to hire Renewal by Andersen after interviewing and accepting quotes from pretty much the whole range of window replacement competition available. They finally decided to hire Renewal by Andersen, as Tim commented:
“Renewal by Andersen quality just stuck out over all the others, in addition they stay with the job once they start and we didn’t have to wait months for them to start. The warranty was also another big thing…parts, labor, glass, screens, muntin bars in-between-the-glass…all covered!1”
This was the ideal opportunity to observe a whole house window replacement of 24 windows from beginning to end. Upon prompt arrival, the installation crew wasted no time in scoping out the house for problem areas and began to formulate a work site strategy. The home site was divided into “work areas” and drop cloths and other coverings were used to keep each area clean and protected, inside and out.
Soon ladders and scaffolding went up—allowing the installers to easily navigate the home exterior and begin carefully removing the home’s siding for close access/removal of existing window trim and ultimately removing each worn window. Much of this work is more complex than meets the eye, as care must be taken to safely remove shutters, siding, trim and worn windows without disturbing the home’s insulation wrap. In addition, new ice and water protection wrap are installed around each new window in addition to new exterior trim after re-attaching the home’s siding.
The Renewal by Andersen interior approach is much the same, however extra care is taken to cover floors, furniture, protect walls and room fixtures. Original interior window trim is carefully removed and saved for re-installation or new trim is provided depending upon job site scope and specifics—leaving each room with its renewed windows, damage-free.
